HAIRCARE IN MONSOON

HAIRCARE IN MONSOON

Monsoon is the one season when the skin and the hair tend to react differently to the changing weather and the rising humidity. As such, it becomes important to come up with a plan, a course of action, to take care of yourself. Among the many things that impede the healthy growth of hair humidity can be a major factor. It is quite natural for seasonal changes to take a toll on our hair. Our hair is fragile and just like our skin, it needs some extra care with changing weather.

How To Take Care Of Hair In Monsoon:

Apply Oil Twice Weekly: Oiling also keeps your hair away from the unruliness and frizziness in monsoons by deep-conditioning your hair naturally. This enhances blood circulation to your hair follicles, which boosts nourishment to your hair internally. To reap the maximum benefits of oil, heat hair oil and apply it to your scalp at least an hour before you wash your hair. End result: Your hair will stay frizz-free, silky and glossy all through the day. Hair oils with ingredients like neem, tea-tree, aloe vera etc. have natural anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties which help you fight from different scalp infections in the rainy season while they strengthen ypur hair roots.  Also, herbs like amla, brahmi, bhringraj in Ayurvedic hair oils nourish your scalp. They impart a soothing effect to your hair roots while promoting healthy hair-regrowth.

Washing Your Hair After Rain Is Compulsory: When you get drenched in rain, the rainwater's acidity trapped in your hair may cause an imbalance in your scalp pH, aggravating Kapha dosha. This pushes your sebaceous glands to secrete excessive sebum, which makes your scalp oily and greasy while inviting various pathogens to feed on. Shampoo your hair to remove any residue or particles from your scalp left behind by rain water.

Use Chemical-Free Shampoo And Conditioner: As a general rule of thumb, you need to wash your hair at least twice a week. For this time of year, pick an anti-bacterial shampoo and conditioner, since your scalp could be prone to fungal infections. In addition to the monsoon woes, harsh chemicals used in hair products such as sulphates and parabens worsen your hair damage, especially affecting the delicate roots. Besides repairing the damaged scalp and hair tissues, these natural hair cleansers are highly effective in imparting a naturally smooth and shiny texture. Having a dirty scalp can only lead to more hair problems, including scalp acne and dandruff. When you wash your hair, make sure you use a mild shampoo that is repeated once or twice every week, followed by a conditioner of your choice. Humidity is known to make the hair frizzy. Once you are done washing, make sure you only use a soft towel to squeeze the excess the water from the hair. Let it dry naturally. Do not use anything that can harm the tresses. If you are finding it particularly difficult to tame your hair, use a light serum.

(2)   Daily Care: Treatments:

(3)   Weekly Care: Treatments:

Referred to as your hair insurance, intensive weekly hair masks rejuvenate dull, damaged hair, keeping hair strong, healthy and hydrated. Comb through and leave in for 10-15 minutes, then rinse.

Keep Your Hair Moisturised: Monsoon hair care is important, especially when it comes to taming your frizz. Touted as multi-taskers, serums are designed for all hair types and concerns, they will shield your hair from heat and add shine and volume at the same time. Look for hair moisturisers that keep your hair hydrated and moisturised throughout.

Keep Your Hair Dry: It is necessary to keep your scalp and hair dry during monsoons. Remember that your hair is weakest when it is in wet condition. Use required accessories such as umbrellas, caps, or scarfs if you are travelling during monsoons. Make sure your scalp is clean at all times. If your hair is wet, do not tie it and let your loose hair get air-dried naturally as soon as possible. Tangled hair can lead to breakage and loss of volume. To avoid tangling, when the hair dries wear it in a simple manner like a high ponytail, a plain braid, or a neat bun.

Eat Balanced Diet you may crave for hot, oily and crisy foods in chilling weather during monsoon. But these foods will only intensify your hair and scalp problems. It is important to stay away from junk. Consider a fresh and healthy diet that is rich in vitamins- A, B, C, D, E, K proteins and minerals like zinc, iron etc. Try including salads, flaxseeds, leafy greens, sprouts and seasonal vegetables and fruits in your diet. Also, consume adequate water in a day to keep yourself hydrated.

Hair Combing Matters Too: You should not comb your wet hair. This is the root cause of breakage and split ends, especially if your hair is curly or wavy. Wait for your hair to dry out and then use a finger comb to untangle any tangled hair. Use a wide-toothed, wooden comb. Humidity can also make the hair get tangled a lot.

Avoid Styling Appliances: Your scalp is at its vulnerable best during monsoon. To avoid hair fall in monsoon avoid exposing it to extreme heat styling products. If you cannot, do not forget to use a heat-resistant spray enriched with vitamins and nutrients.

Gear Up With Head Scarfs: Not only do they make a great hairstyle statement, but they also protect your hair from the humidity present in the weather that can either cause excessive frizz or weigh down your hair. Don't step out of your home without a scarf or headgear.

Get a Regular Haircut: During the monsoons, make it a point to get a regular haircut. Trimming and cutting the hair will not only update your style but will also help in getting rid of the annoying split ends and dryness. Trimming can rid you of split ends and the general dryness of hair, which is a great thing for the monsoon months.
